The Gift of Reading Contest!

THE CONTEST:
To enter: buy a book for someone on your gift-giving list! A child, a teen, an adult, an adult who acts like a child, it doesn't matter to me. All that matters is that you spend some of your holiday gift money on a book for someone. (It can even be for yourself. I highly approve of self-gifting books.) I'd extra super love it if you bought from an independent bookstore, but I know they can be harder to access geographically, so it's not a requirement.

You have two weeks (until Monday, December 10th) to leave a comment on THIS POST AND THIS POST ONLY telling me what book you bought. You can also tell me who it is for (unless that person also reads my blog, in which case you have excellent taste in friends and family). I love hearing about what people are reading and what they love enough to give to other people. It makes my heart happy.

THE PRIZES:

You can have your pick from either...

A signed early copy of one of these lovelies:

Just look at those eyes. You know you want to read it.

Or, to aid in your holiday gift-giving, a completed, signed trilogy!

(It will be paperback, paperback, and hardcover, not all hardcovers.)

THE RULES:

You MUST purchase a book. I don't care what book. You MUST comment on this blog post telling me you purchased a book, and saying what book it is so we can all look it up! One entry per person, even if you buy multiple books (which is super highly encouraged) or you buy my books (also super highly encouraged). This contest is NOT open internationally. (I'm sorry, I'm just not willing to stand in line to fill out a customs form. The Post Office is always the worst, but in December it is extra the worst. There will be future contests open internationally.) The contest closes on December 10th so I have time to get you the book(s) before Christmas.

So! Go forth! Give the gift of awesome books, and be entered to win even more books because of it!

I just bought UNSPOKEN by Sarah Rees Brennan for my daughter.

This book was just SO much fun, I can't even begin to explain how much I loved it. So....I had to force it upon her! :D

Merry Christmas!

I just got back from doing this! I went to the independent book store by school and bought the Harry Potter in series- it's not for someone in particular, but for the book drive I'm hosting at school through the Harry Potter Alliance.

Thanks so much for the contest, Kiersten! :)

I just pre-ordered for myself OPAL by Jennifer L. Armentrout. After buying and reading OBSIDIAN and ONYX over the past week, I couldn't resist.

No one else in my family reads as much as I do, so I don't plan on buying them any novels. However, I did get my dad "The World's Greatest Book of Useless Information: If You Thought You Knew All the Things You Didn't Need to Know - Think Again" (yeah, not even going to bother capitalizing that) and my brother "Stupid History: Tales of Stupidity, Strangeness, and Mythconceptions Throughout the Ages" today.

I'm hoping she doesn't read this comment (or if she does, she doesn't know I'm her secret santa!) but I JUST bought a copy of Out of Reach by Carrie Arcos for a fellow book blogger - but I'm really excited because I found out Carrie will be doing a signing near me next weekend, so I'm going to get it signed + personalised for my giftee :) It was marked as one of her Favourites of the Favourite on her Wishlist, so I'm hoping she'll love it!

And when I bought that book i couldn't help but self-gift myself Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill and Insurgent by Veronica Roth. Self-gifting is good for the soul!

Hi Kiersten! Well the books I bought for myself recently were Fated and Echo from Alyson Noel. I keep seeing those two whenever I go to retail stores that sell books so I thought why not buy them when it's going to be my birthday this Friday. But I actually haven't read them yet because I'm in the final weeks of my Fall semester in college so I hardly have time to read right now. After this week though, I'm probably not going to leave my room and skip meals to read and read. Thanks for this giveaway! :)

I actually bought a set of books for my sister from an independent book store here in my town earlier today...

They were all Three Omnibuses of her Night World Series(?) I think it counts as a series even though each book is TECHNICALLY a stand alone, they're in the same world.

I started reading book one and was like... "I may have to read these before I give them to her."

I bought The Big Book of Lego Ideas for my nephew who loves books AND Legos! WIN.

I don't know what book(s) I'm getting for my mom yet, but I do know I'm getting her a bookshelf so she can move all the stacks from her dresser.

My friend Kelsy (upinthebibliosphere.blogspot.com) and I have agreed to exchange gift cards in order to buy as many of the amazing books coming out in the next few months as possible!

I've also been thinking about doing a white elephant gift exchange for our book club where all the gifts must be books, for better or for worse. It sounds like so much fun!

Have a very booky Christmas, Kiersten! I know I will!

I bought two copies of Finnikin of the Rock (one for my aunt and one for one of my best friends). Because I think everyone needs to read Melina Marchetta.

I bought The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen (for my mom) because no one does magical realism quite like her.

Her Mother's Hope by Francine Rivers is for my step-mom because she likes historical fiction (it's the only book I'm giving I haven't read, but it comes highly recommended by my sister).

And then I'm giving Telling the Truth by Frederich Buechner to my other best friend because it's like the perfect book for her.

I like giving books so I LOVE this contest :)

My dad’s Christmas request is that I buy gifts to donate to Toys for Tots, so this is what I’ve done. For the older set, I purchased a boxed set of “The Trylle Series” by Amanda Hocking. I also purchased “Fallen” by Lauren Kate (along with toys for the young and very young which light up, make noise, and all that fun stuff).

I gave my mother “The Dovekeepers” by Alice Hoffman early, knowing it was near her turn to choose the next book for her book club and thinking this book might suit all of them. She was intrigued enough by the jacket copy to buy additional copies for her fellow book club members.

My sister-in-law will be getting the first three books in the “The Mortal Instruments” series by Cassandra Clare. They are on her Christmas list, as my brother so diligently informed me.

I got my best friend the five-book boxed set of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” by Rick Riordan. I think those books would also be a great addition to her classroom library (upper elementary school), and I hope she thinks so too!

And finally, I’ve given in – yet again – to self-gifting books. I picked up a copy of Ally Condie’s “Reached.” I also bought “The Humming Room” by Ellen Potter.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Happy New Year/Happy-Merry-Enter-Celebration-Here to you, Kiersten White, and anyone else who happens upon this comment! :-)
