Adventures With Presents

I got a Kindle for Christmas.  I'm not one that is terrified by the e-volution of reading.  Probably a lot of this has to do with the fact that my book has done really well as an e-book.  I like that.  I like paper, too, but so far I've quite enjoyed reading on my Kindle.  Observe:

What's that?  You can't get Supernaturally on your e-reader?

I also got a house for Christmas.  Observe:

I love the stairs.  Is that weird?

One of the fun things about finally owning, besides all of the moneymoneymoney you have to keep shelling out for every little thing, is being able to decorate however you want.  And my decorating sensibilities leave nothing wanting.  I'm all about class and convention.  Observe:

Lord of the Rings sword replica as jewelry holder?  CHECK.

Dacchian Wolf-Dragon wooden spoon wall decor?  CHECK.

The best quilt EVER in my still-being-put-together office, along with one of the cardboard floor stands?  CHECK.

I also got a brilliant television series for my husband, and the brilliant Steph Perkins got a toy for me.  Observe:

But what's that, you say?  That doesn't look like a traditional Sherlock head?  No, no it isn't.  Observe:

Benedict!  It IS you!  Of course Steph would think of the only possible way to improve on a Sherlock Holmes action figure.

Sherlock is supposed to live on my desk and whisper snarky observations in my ear as I'm writing, but since I don't have my desk set up yet I decided to play with him.  Sadly, we didn't get very far.
Me:  "Wanna play something?"
Sherlock:  "The game is afoot!"
Me:  "I'll take that as a yes.  Let's play Clue!"
Sherlock:  "It was Colonel Mustard in the Observatory with the lead pipe."
Me:  "But I haven't even opened the box yet!"
Sherlock:  *annoyed stare that questions my intelligence*
Me:  "I hate you."

Just kidding, Sherlock.  I love you.  But you're no fun to play games with.

So, what was your favorite Christmas gift?  Did you get a set of stairs with a big, bright window, too?  Or an action figure that questions your intelligence on a daily basis but that you love anyway because he's just so adorably brilliant?  Or an e-reader that you can't get Supernaturally on yet?

Whoops.  Sorry.  Sometimes that smug laughter just spills out and I can't help it.  Observe!  This is me, shutting up.

Wait - you can get the sherlock series on DVD now? *must...but!*

Congrats on the house! I bought mine about three years ago, and even with weird things that go wrong, it's still waaaaay better than renting.

I got a Kindle for xmas too, and I cannot recommend the Scrabble game/app enough. I love that thing! (Some might say obsessed... but don't mind them!)

Kindle vs. Nook. I can't decide. Why did you go with the Kindle? Anyway, I think you'll LOVE Tale Dark & Grimm!

And congrats on your new house!

The best thing about having stairs is getting to decorate them at Christmas! I love, love, love, to wind the garland. My MIL taught me some cool ways to fancify it with berries, lights, and pretty ribbon!

Enjoy your stairs, but don't fall. I did that this year too :(

I really love those stairs too!
My favorite Christmas Gift was probably the pink and black striped, fluffy, Hello Kitty-socks my friends gave me. They are so fluffy!
And oh, did I mention pink?

Debbie Barr said...

Your stairs are lovely! As, I'm sure, is the rest of your house. :D

My husband, of all people, bought me the BBC Pride and Prejudice DVD set for Christmas, despite all the threats I've made that he must watch all five hours of it with me. I thought it was very sweet.w

I got my husband Sherlock for Christmas! We loved A Study in Pink but I thought epi 3 was boring. :)

My favorite gift was an amazon gift card so I could buy lots and lots of books for Fluffy (aka my kindle).

I got to go see Tron Legacy...that was actually the only gift I got lol. But it was awesome. Also, I think I'm in love with your stairs. I have a thing for cool stairs...Yea... Have fun with the eReader! :) And congrats on the house!

Michelle Wolfson said...

I have an eReader with Supernaturally on it too!! In fact, I believe I even had one FIRST!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

But I didn't get any Christmas presents, so please forgive my gloating. It was done with love.

Love, Love, Love Sherlock And Miss Marple. Have to watch any remake/recreation including either of them.

How in the world do you think up things like playing Clue with Sherlock Holmes--brilliantly funny!

Congratulations on your new home and I wish you much fun with your Kindle. I love my e-reader. They are the best!

I got a treadmill and a crockpot. Sort of counterproductive, don't you think?

I read Paranormalcy on my kindle and loved it. Welcome to the e-book club.

I got a Kindle, too, and I adore it. I actually put MY ms on my husband's Kindle so he can preread it. And I may have read a 2011 release (sent by the author) *counts* 5 months early on my Kindle. Maybe. ;) Ebooks are fab.

I'm just now reading "Paranormalcy" on my Nook. I'm loving it. Your voice is fantabulous. I don't know if anyone's told you this, but it reminds me of a YA version of Hellboy with a hot pink heroine instead of Ron Pearlman.

My best Christmas gift this year was a vintage typewriter from my boyfriend that he restored himself. It sits right next to a plushie Pascal from Tangled who glares at me to keep working. Pascal is not amused.

I think the reason you love the stairs is because you haven't spent enough time vacuuming them yet.

Ooooh, that was cynical. Sorry about that. Seriously though, you have a very pretty house. It's nice to own your own place.

Whirlochre said...

Did your stairs come with padded adult diapers? For all the sliding down those bannisters?

It looks great, your new place.

Kiersten White said...

Elizabeth--Actually, I picture Evie exactly as Ron Pearlman with long blond hair!

; ) So glad you are enjoying it!

Steph Sinkhorn said...

Ahahahaha I *just* started watching the Sherlock series! We just got it on The Netflix.

Congratulations on the home-ownerage! Beyond awesome :)

I love stairs too. I don't know why. I'm incredibly lazy so I really should hate stairs, but I love them. I think they make a house seem bigger and like there's something really interesting hidden away on another level of the house.

I love that quilt!!

Ru said...

I didn't get anything half as cool as those stairs for Christmas. Six shades of jealous. :)

YA Book Queen said...

Why couldn't my brand new Kindle come with Supernaturally? *sigh*

Congrats on the house! I have to admit, those stairs are nice...Ooh! But that quilt is awesome! ;)

I got many awesome things, like Paranormalcy (which I'd already read, and loved, but sadly did not own... until now!) and Hex Hall (which has been devoured) and Inception and... I may be a media addict. ^_^

I just adore Sherlock. I'm sure pretty soon there will be an official Benedict Cumberbatch action figure. He can then play with my Merlin & Arthur action figures, that my brother gave me for Christmas. Best present ever!

I got Despicable Me for Christmas and have already watched it 3.5 times. Fell asleep last night watching it. I feel like a kid who carries the precious DVD around with them all day begging their mom to let them watch it again. Yep, I could very well watch it again tonight. Will I? No. I have to edit. I also got "Anna and the French Kiss" by your Stephanie Perkins. Very good! Glad you have pretty stairs. I would be giddy with delight to have those stairs too.

Megs said...

Ooh, I really want the grand tour of your new place. A house for Christmas? BEST PRESENT EVER. Call me a sentimental nerd, but I love my new sewing machine - it was my grandmothers, and my husband had it all tuned up for me. :)

P.S. Mine has a kindle and I often (shhhh! don't tell him!) borrow it. But no Supernaturally on it. :(

Amy said...

I didn't get a kindle, but I did get a sony reader!

Unfortunately, I do not have an e-book Supernaturally OR Paranormalcy. I bought a printed copy of Paranormalcy because that cover just needs to be hugged. My nook is too small to be hugged properly.

That, and I bought it before the sony came tempting me with e-books.

I love the new Sherlock as well. So much fun.

I recently caught up with the movie with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. Heaps of fun. I truly loved it.

The music is awesome too.

Congrats on your new home. Isn't it awesome being able to decorate it how you want??? You are going to love having your own office. It rocks!!!!!!

I'm letting hubby decorate the inside because he has much more sense than me, but outside, the garden is mine. All Mine!!!!! Mwahahahahahah!

Keep us posted on if you like your kindle. I don't have one and would be curious.

Congrats on your new house. It looks cool. I'm going to sign my first big home improvement contract tomorrow. Lots of money too.

No kidding, my 9-year-old got Clue and we've played it a ton lately. No more Col. Mustard, though, nope - all updated (at least the one we got). Congrats on the house, that's wonderful!

Madeleine said...

I love your staircase! I have a thing for staircases. The longer, the better. (You can get exercise by just taking the laundry upstairs! ;D)

One of my favorite Christmas gifts? ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS. :D

Carrie said...

Have you tried sliding down the stairs yet? Congrats on the house! I FINALLY got a puppy for Christmas (I've only been asking for about 20 flippin' years) and he is gorgeous. Hope I won't have to wait that long for SUPERNATURALLY...I'll never make it!

I totally love your stairs! Stairs are important. Well, you'd be stuck on just one floor without them, of course, but that's not what I'm talking about. Stairs are sort of the spine of a house. They tell you all about it. Steep, crooked stairs with bent steps? Scary, old, potentially malevolent house. Bright, airy, fancy stairs that soar in the air? Designer house that you'd need to update your wardrobe and buy horrendously pricey Danish furniture to live in. White, pretty, twisting staircase with a seemingly innocent ladder leading up to the attic? Now, that's a house where fairly tales begin, where Christmas is pretty, and the ghosts witness everything with tiny smiles on their lips.

Ebony McKenna. said...

Oh the stairs, totally forgot.

Have you gone sliding down the stairs on your bottom yet?
I bet you want to.

I got a Kindle last year for Christmas! I love it. I got another one this year for Christmas ( Well, my parents said they would replace mine, free of charge!). Have fun with yours.

My best friend gave me Sorta Like a Rock Star(Matthew Quick), Losing Faith (Denise Jaden) and If I stay (Gayle Forman).

Have I mentioned that I love her?

PS, I'll have Supernaturally soon! Well sorta. Maybe not that soon. WAAAAAA!!!

love the lotr sword replica! and Sherlock! gosh. I'm screaming NEED!

How many floors does your new house have? Looks awesome!
In Australia we have so much land, we just build big one story houses!
And has the game Clue always been Clue? We call it Cluedo, unless it has had a recent name change here and I didn't notice. Which is entirely possible!

I love, love, love the quilt. Pink's my fav color. Oh, and the jewelry holders is pretty sweet, too. My fav gift is iPad from Hubs. Pure awesomeness.

Security in Heathrow ruined my Kindle and I got a Nook to replace it ... which I HATE! I'm returning it for another Kindle but I'll have to wait until my birthday in March :(

Three years ago (four Christmas's ago) I got my Castle for Christmas! So, I so totally know what you are going through!

Last year I got my Kindle for Christmas. It travels with me everywhere. I have over 50 books on it now and I've read probably 45 of those, am reading two others on it and have three as spares so I don't get caught without something new and fresh to read.
