Do you know what today is? Are you ready??
No, not taxes. Ugh. I love you far too much to talk about taxes on my blog.
No, today is Operation Teen Book Drop! Sponsored by the fabulous ReaderGirlz, Operation Teen Book Drop is a nationwide activity to support a charity-book drive they do every year. This year the book drive is going to supply libraries for tribal schools that desperately need them. More information here: http://www.readergirlz.com/tbd.html. Today, though, your role is easy. Simply pick a book--preferably a middle grade or YA novel--write a note in it to let whoever finds it know that it's theirs and you're supporting the TBD (or print off one of the bookplate templates on their website), and leave it somewhere public!
My only dilemma is which book to pick. I wish I were at home with my rather extensive (read: double-stacked and spilling off the shelves) library, but even though I'm on vacation, I can make it work. Because really, what's not to like about free books? And even better, about supplying books to teens who genuinely need them?
Nothing. That's what there is not to like. So go pick your book. I'm going to pick mine right now. And don't forget to take a picture and send it in for the party! I'll post mine later today.
Taa daa! I figure some poor kid, traumatized by this statue, will at least have the consolation prize of finding a free book.
Also, although I didn't have a copy with me, a certain FABULOUS agent left a copy of PARANORMALCY somewhere in Union Square in New York. It may still be there. It may not. Gosh, we should do this every day...

I do this all the time ... I write in the front of the book and I leave it on mall benches ;)
LOVE this idea. Fantastic!
This is totally unrelated to this post, but I'd like to know what Paranormalcy is about. I don't follow your blog and linked here when I read Editorial Ass's post about how much she loved reading your ARC.
I clicked on the links (amazon/bn), but there is no description of the book. Where's the book jacket copy for this one?
Hey Anon, you can find more info on my website, www.kierstenwhite.com. I really ought to write about in the sidebar...
Hopefully the cover/jacket copy goes up on Amazon soon.
Steena--That's awesome! I love it.
Alas, dropping a book in a country where they can't read English would be rather pointless. :(
What an awesome idea! Love it!
Kiersten,
Since you are away from home, you are welcome to any of the books in our bookshelves for TBD.
Wow. I love this idea. Think of the good you could do, the inspiration you just might be to someone without even knowing it. I love these kind of projects.
Nice.
I think this is a wonderful idea. Have fun picking.
I was in school all day, and the worst part was, I knew. SO I was just dying to go ask our library staff if they had any un-librarified, pure books that we could give to the world from the entire school.
I finally got down there to find that no, they did not. They loved the idea, but they had no books. Of course, I do believe that after I reread it, my copy of Betwixt (Tara Bray Smith) may find a new home...
I love this idea. How fun for someone to find a new book and claim it as their own!
Dah! That knight is creepy! Ohmygoodness!
I love this idea, and I also pre-ordered your book today. Swoon!
xox
Great idea! Oh, and you're right. Choosing the book is going to be one of my hardest decisions. :)
Okay, Kiersten! I did it because you told me to. ;) I dropped The Forest of Hands and Teeth off at the junior high school on a bench in the locker hall. Well, technically, my son did the dropping off--- I was in the car trying not to die from pneumonia, so dang it! No picture for the party.
Thank you so much for supporting Operation TBD! Nice to meet you. :)
So did you ever find out what happened to that copy of PARANORMALCY? I totally would have picked it up if I weren't in Iowa!
Never mind the traumatized kids — what about me?
Statues of armoured knights always freak me out. Especially the ones that come to life and grab you.
Hrrrr. Weird.
cool idea.
Okay, Kiersten, I just want to say that I LOVE your shoes in that photo.
Anyway. I love this idea of leaving random secret book gifts. It's like a BookCrossing.com, but more special. :)
"Paranormalcy" comes out the day before my birthday, and it is so getting added to my wishlist.
