Now, those of you who have followed for a while know that I very, very rarely post excerpts from what I'm writing. But I'm so excited over this new project I'm working on, I just had to share.
Chapter Thirteen: The Ice Cave
My heart broke then, watching her pace back and forth across the icy, pebble-strewn floor of the cave. She shouldn't be confined here--forced to live out a solitary, shamed existence among the barren and blasted landscape of the frozen Himilayas. That she thought no one would ever love her, that she doubted even I loved her, was so wrong it'd be laughable if it weren't so heartbreaking.
I stood, putting my hand on her furry knee--the highest spot I could reach on her gargantuan, indescribably beautiful body--to calm her. "Listen, me heart." I choked back tears, gazing up (and up and up and up) into her eyes, chocolate brown pieces of her sweet, tender soul, eyes that held me captivated since the first time I saw them. How had I ever lived without those eyes? "Come away with me. Ye doona have to live here, alone. I love ye! I always will. I doona care if yer a Yeti and I'm a leprechaun. Why can't our cultures and myths mix? Please, come away with me, love!"
Her beautiful eyes filled with tears, and my breath caught in my chest. She shook her head, silky white fur waving from side to side. I longed to run my fingers through it, get lost in the luxurious lengths of her snowy down. She knelt down so we were closer to eye level.
"Yrnoooowwwlrrrrrrgnraaaawl!"
"No! No, don't ye ever say that again! I love ye more than any pot o' gold in the whole world! I've already given up me rainbow for ye, and I'd sacrifice every rainbow on this whole forsaken planet if it meant just one minute--just one minute more with ye!"
We both let out a sob as she reached down with her fantastically muscled arms and crushed me to her in a hug. I nestled into her fur, wanting to be closer, closer, always closer to her, breathing in her sweet, icy musk. Except it was kinda hard to breathe. Okay, really hard to breathe.

Awww... *heart* This is so cute. And I had to laugh at the last line. :) They are so adorable.
I worry that she may smother him. With love, of course.
BA HA HA HA! At first I thought I was getting a real excerpt and was soooooo excited. :) Maybe next time, maybe next time...
*wipes away a tear* So sweet...*dreamy sigh*
Pure awesome.
"Yrnoooowwwlrrrrrrgnraaaawl!"
So that's what they sound like! I wonder if they'll share a bowl of Lucky Charms next?
LOL! Some things are just so wrong they're right!
YAY!!! I was hoping I'd get to see you play with this hahahahaha. FANTASTIC. Been having a bad day, but that just made it better. Thank you!! :D
There's nothing like pure, unadulterated silliness to brighten my day!
Oh, that's just fantastic. You fooled me for a minute, too. But I enjoyed it a lot, thank you. You made me laugh out loud alone in my dorm so that my neighbors will think I'm crazy (which I am, but still, they can't know). Teehee!
Jamie
This was so beautiful!
You should have a love triangle with an elf or something vying for her affections. Then I can buy a shirt that says, "Team Leprechaun".
Awww...That brought a tear to me eye. Just like how mum and dada met. *sniff*
Crud. I may need to rethink some of the dialogue in my paranormal romance. Apparently I've tapped into the old Darby O'Gill and the Little People/Yeti cliches.
Haha--seemed like a perfectly normal excerpt, until I got to "her furry knee"! Thanks for the giggle. :)
And who says there are no more urban fantasies left to write...? :)
I giggled. :-P
Phenomenal writing...albeit about a Yeti and a Leprechaun. Very cool.
What a nice excerpt. You should post more often.

(Sigh)
Yeti/Leprechaun love....is there anything better?
you are a little devious, you devil you.
What a delightful excerpt. If this is a taste of what Paranormalcy will be like, I'm going to be waiting in line. Thanks for the laugh.
Wow, you are so ridiculous. And yet, also talented enough to MAKE ME WANT TO READ MORE OF THIS. *That's* what's truly ridiculous. :P
Also, a tease, 'cause I totally thought YES, for once I get to read the excerpt before she pulls it down!! But no. Thwarted still. Sigh.
DOH, did my comment not post? Grr...
Well, just in case:
A) You are ridiculous. This is ridiculous. And what's even more ridiculous? You're so good I actually would read more!
B) You are a tease. I totally thought I was finally going to get to read an excerpt before you took it down. But no. thwarted again!
I think it's the dialogue which really transports the story to such dizzying romantic heights. You're really treading in Shakespeare's shadow with this, Kiersten.
I am holding back the sobs even as I write this.
Good one! You had me there for a minute. Thanks for giving me an excuse to crack up. ;)
Kiersten,
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. Why? Not having ever read anything you've written, nor the rest of this project itself, I had ABSOLUTELY NO TROUBLE at all hearing your characters. NONE. ZILCH. NADA.
THAT, my friend, is a product of great writing. :-)
You guys are too funny. Thanks so much, I'm glad you appreciated this : )
And I promise, my real writing is much better. I spend more than three minutes on chapters in real life.
Promise.
Just wait until you find out she's secretly betrothed to a Western Lord Sasquatch!
Kiersten, I'm sorry everyone thinks your writing is a joke. I, for one, am immensely inspired. Maybe another excerpt might include the steamy love affair between me and Laptop? I dare anyone to laugh at such a deep, rich, love as ours.
This just left a big happy smile on my face! Thanks so much for making my day a little better!
Please never stop writing. (:
xoxoxo
looking-glass-fables.
HA! HahaHA!!
At first I thought the whole Yeti/Leprechaun romance thing was a joke, but now you've touched my heart with the plight of these poor height-crossed lovers. More! I need to read more!
That was epical. If you don't seriously get that published, I will be very sad. My heart will break into more pieces than the leprechaun's...!
Wow.
:D
I am rendered almost speechless.
The Yeti and the Leprechaun. <3
oookkkkkaaaayyyyyy....
I have to say it did capture my attention, and I want to know what happens next but...uhh....you been eating those "magic" mushrooms much? ;)
I probably going to repeat a lot of what has already been said, but I'll go for it anyway.
If that was you spending three minutes writing a single chapter...I want your talent and I want it now.
Second, you do realize that this now means that you actually have to write the Leprechaun/Yeti/Sasquatch novel. I know at least 400 people that would dying to read it just like we're dying to read Paranormalcy (I think I spelled that right), and it would be a fabulous blogvel and probably wouldn't be too bad of an exercise when the dreaded WB rears its ugly head.
Anyway, I want more NOW!!!
This is genre-busting stuff. May even bust more than genres...
I thought it was a real excerpt. I began to guffaw when the dialogue began. Thanks for starting my Friday off with this it was very fun and consoled me over the snow day we were promised and did not get today! I'm hopin that brave little leprechaun survives his forbidden love!
That was bizarre and funny. I'm sure you could make it work in a real story, though. (Is it bad that I picture Mr. Scott as the leprechaun in his red Star Trek jersey?)
I think you should give us installments. It can be like Carrie's merpire thing. Yes?
Ha!!! :D

from the desk of a writer
Good god! Since I follow your blog in a reader, I read this post before your "What NOT to write" one and, like Abby, thought this was real.
I had a moment of glee, where I thought, "Yes! If this is the kind of stuff a published writer writes, then I'll be fine!"
sigh.
