A Solemn Promise

Okay, just because I still can't quite believe it's real and so am collecting evidence, here's my Publisher's Marketplace announcement:

Kiersten White's PARANORMALCY, following a 16-year-old girl with the unique ability to see through paranormals' disguises, who works for an organization called the International Paranormal Containment Agency, to Erica Sussman at Harper Children's, in a significant deal, in a pre-empt, in a three-book deal, for publication in Fall 2010, by Michelle Wolfson at Wolfson Literary Agency (World).

See? No ghosts! Yay!

And, in a solemn promise first made to Stephanie Perkins, I hereby vow to use whatever power and influence I might obtain, however small, to organize a synchronized dance in which writers everywhere perform Bret's Angry Dance, hereby known as BAD.

LOL I love Flight of the Conchords. I don't know if I'm quite a writer yet, but if I count, I'm in on the dance. And just keep pinching yourself because: IT'S REAL! :)

Okay, as suspected, I SO need to be watching Flight of the Conchords!

Congrats again on the deal! I'd been waiting for it to show up in PM and to see if they got the description right.

Also, I'm always down for any kind of synchronized dance. It's sort of like a dream of mine.

That would be one of the most awesome pre-mediated flash mobs ever! Right up there with The Sound of Music in the train station and Can't Touch This in a shop on Rodeo Drive.

Congrats again on the deal!

Kiersten, believe it! Believe it! Congratulations! :)

As for the dance, it's just the anger management my family needs. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, Kiersten. I am SO there with you! Especially if you come to Utah to do it.

(And thanks for including "writers" instead of only "authors." That makes me happy.)

I'll volunteer to help! I taught 700 kids to do Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire this spring at an assembly. (High point of my year.)

I seem to remember something else about a vow that involved hair dye.....???

Congratulations!

I just found your blog and I've been reading up. Your publishing guide is fantastic, realistic, and even a bit encouraging (which I need!).

Thanks!

Lora

PS I have a blog (doesn't everyone?): http://litdiva.blogspot.com/

Ditto on the writers vs authors!

I am stilled so very thrilled for you. I tell people about it like your my daughter or something! It must be so surreal...

Kiersten, again, CONGRATS. All PW announcements = goosebumps for me.

As for the video idea, PERFECT. I'm with you on that one.

Add me to the dance list. And a huge congrats on the PW announcement!

Thanks, girls! I'm so relieved you're already on board for the dance. Your icons all look very graceful. And angry. Perfect for BAD.

And Shelley, alas, I haven't forgotten!

As Rachel said, "Believe it!"

(Course, I know how hard it would be for me to believe all the good stuff, too. What does that say about us?)

Whoooooo-hoooo Flight of the Concords! I love Bret and Germaine!

I'm elbow-deep in edits Kiersten. How goes it with you?

The last time I did high kicks like that, I split my pants.

Awesome announcement. That's great.
Much congrats to you.

And of course Conchords is brilliant.

Bret's Angry Dance reminds me of every scene from every High School Musical in which Zac Efron sings a song trying to figure out who he is.

Which is sad in so, so many ways.

Kiersten White said...

Adam--YES!!! We've always thought so, too.

Love Flight of the Choncords. I'm in!! If you'll have me. :) And I agree with Adam 100%.

Tara said...

Okay, I'll admit it. I'm just a wee bit envious. Congrats.

Kiersten White said...

Absolutely we'll have you, Candice, and everyone else, too!

And Tara, I still can't believe it's real. Don't be envious, it'll happen for you, too : )

That was pretty hilarious. I've never seen Flight of the Concords, but all you references and videos are peaking my interest. I'm glad PW got it right this time:)

I must be missing something. I've never seen Flight of the Concords, but this dance is just like Kevin Bacon's "angry" dance in Footloose. Please tell me I'm not the only one old enough to have seen Footloose! But now that you mention it, it does remind me of HSM dances also.

BTW, Footloose was based on the tiny town I grew up in.

Congrats again, Kiersten! Have fun with the edits!

Very Napoleon Dynamite. Fun.

Carrie Harris said...

I'm totally in on the dance.

Of course, you do realize that he's doing the dance from Footloose, don't you? Please tell me that I'm not the only person old enough (and geeky enough) to know this.

Yes, I used to do the Footloose dance in my living room. I admit it. And probably will do it again today, because it's that awesome.

carolinestarr said...

You're right! Old enough to remember, just didn't place it. Footloose was the song to dance to at middle school slumber parties.

I've never met you and am new to your blog, but every time you post a new announcement about your book, I get so excited for you!!

Thank you for sharing! I love living vicariously!!

HOW DID I MISS THIS POST??

Seriously, where have I been? What's wrong with me??

***LOVE***

BAD will take over the YA world!

(Also, never fear, Carrie. I've seen Footloose at least a dozen times.)
